An unpopular decision, according to the New York Times, who felt Apostoli won 6-4.
"Ken Overlin, 159 3/4, from Richmond, Va., tonight won a close, majority 10-round decision over Fred Apostoli, 155, of San Francisco in their furious middleweight elimination bout at the Hippodrome. Apostoli, although the loser in this, his eastern debut, won an army of admirers by his splendid showing against the more seasoned Overlin. The decision found disfavor with many of the fans, however, it was a close fight and could have been scored either way. The California Italian was the aggressor throughout and landed the most damaging punches. However, Overlin probably scored more points with his jumping-in-and-out, slam-bang tactics." -United Press
- Unofficial UP scorecard - 5-4-1 Apostoli
