"Muskegon's Kenny Lane used his strong right jab Tuesday night to punch out a unanimous 10 round decision over 3rd ranked welterweight contender Doug Vaillant at Miami Beach Auditorium. Lane weathered a cut right cheek and Vaillant's late-round flurry to win the fight. The southpaw Lane, 3rd ranked junior welterweight, kept his Cuban opponent off balance through the first half of the fight with his jabbing right. Vaillant's speed kept Lane from dishing out heavy punishment, however. Vaillant began to score well with left hooks from late in the 2nd round to the finish, but failed to overcome Lane's early margin." -United Press International
