"Having passed an unexpectedly tough hurdle in the form of Erie's Johnny Bizzarro, Kenny Lane now can concentrate on his scheduled title bout with lightweight champion Carlos Ortiz. Lane won the 10 round match with a split decision at Tech Memorial Gym. He had to rally in the late rounds to win over Bizzarro. There were no knockdowns in the fight, although Lane opened a cut over Bizzarro's left eye in the 2nd round. The two battled toe-to-toe many times, but it was Lane's strong surge in the late rounds that gave the number one lightweight contender the match." -Associated Press
- Lane was already signed to fight Ortiz for the lightweight title on April 4th in Puerto Rico going into this fight.
