"Southpaw Kenny Lane, top challenger for the world's lightweight championship, scored a hard-earned 10 round unanimous decision over unranked Vicente Derado of Argentina Saturday night. The 30 year old Lane, with nothing to gain and his top-ranking to lose, found a tough opponent in the two-fisted aggressive South American, making his MSG debut in the nationally televised 10 round bout. Lane was dogged all the way by Derado's buzzsaw barrage. Lane was bothered in the early rounds by Derado's charging attack but later spotted his punches and many times caught Derado off balance." -United Press International
