Kermit Cintron 146 lbs beat Jonathan Batista 147 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

Former world champion Kermit Cintron claimed his first win in two years scoring a unanimous decision victory over Jonathan Batista of the Dominican Republic.

The lone knockdown of the fight came in the final seconds of Round 8 when a check left hook from Cintron caught an off-balance Batista coming forward and sent him down. He was up quickly. The television commentators felt that the knockdown should have been ruled a slip.

Fouls were the theme of the latter part of the fight. In the seventh round, Cintron went down from a clear low blow while the two men were clenched. At the end of the round, Batista hit Cintron in the back of the head after the bell. Cintron followed Batista to the corner after the round and the two men exchanged words. In a foul-filled 10th round, Batista was deducted one point for rabbit punching and a second point for hitting on the break. Cintron (34-5-2) was warned in the round for pushing Batista down.

It was the second loss for Batista (14-2), with both losses coming in his only two fights outside of the Dominican Republic.
