Vieldhouse boxed out of the Lou Costello Boxing Club in Paterson, N.J. He had an amateur record of 8-2 and was a runner-up in the N.J. Diamond Gloves in 1980 and 1982. He was managed and trained in the pros by Art Cavaliere. Vieldhouse was inducted posthumously into the NJ Amateur Boxing Hall of Fame in 2026.
A 1979 graduate of Wayne Valley High School, he won the Passaic County championship wrestling title at 141lbs. He graduated from the New Jersey State Police Academy in 1993 and became a state trooper, retiring from the force as a Detective Lieutenant.
