Judge Kelly voted a draw, while Referee Magnolia and Judge Mathison gave the fight to Chocolate. "Many persons in the crowd thought LaBarba had won the fight by a rousing last round rally and they booed the decision." Although the NYSAC had not officially designated this bout a bantamweight titular affair, it had "strongly advised" the boxers to weigh in at 118 pounds, but both boxers entered the ring overweight. The NYSAC then offered Panama Al Brown and Vidal Gregorio a similar title opportunity for June 18, when Brown was given the NYSAC's 'defending world champion' title. (United Press reports.)
