Kid Chocolate vs. Joey Scalfaro (2nd meeting)
Kid Chocolate 128 lbs beat Joey Scalfaro 126 lbs by TKO at 0:39 in round 1 of 10
- Date: 1931-10-01
- Location: Queensboro Stadium, Long Island City, Queens, New York, USA
- Referee: Young Otto
Scalfaro "went down in the first flurry of punching and came up, groggy but full of fight, at the count of eight. He was ready and eager to continue but the referee, Kid Otto, waved him to his corner." (AP). Scalfaro, however, claimed he was unhurt and had merely been waiting for the count of "nine" to arise. When "Chocolate approached him with the victor's gesture of a friendly handshake, Scalfaro, objecting to the interference of the referee and struggling to free himself from the seconds who would restrain him, suddenly broke loose and crashed a right hand against the Cuban's head. Scalfaro then was forcibly held back by his handlers. Cigar butts were tossed into the ring from several parts of the arena, and one struck the back of the protesting Scalfaro as he struggled in his corner against the restraining hands of Referee Otto."
