  • Holmes made his pro debut in Scranton ten years earlier, for which he was paid 63 dollars. "All during my career I wanted to return to Scranton to defend my title," Holmes said. "This fight is for the people of Scranton. This is the homecoming fight."
  • A capacity crowd of 6,700 paid $700,000 to see the fight.
  • The fight was shown live on NBC.
  • Holmes won every round against Rodriguez, the European Heavyweight Champion and the 9th-ranked WBC heavyweight contender.
