Laszlo Papp 160 lbs beat Peter Mueller 159 lbs by TKO in round 8 of 10

  • Date: 1961-09-10
  • Location: Eisstadion, Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany
  • The Ring, December 1961, reported:

Cologne, Germany. Peter Mueller was ill- advised to accept a bout with Papp so soon after his crushing defeat at the hands of Heinz Freytag, whom he was intended to tackle in a return clash. Freytag contracted jaundice [...] whereupon Mueller cheerfully accepted the Hungarian, undefeated as a professional.

Papp weighed in at 160 1/2, the Cologne battler at 159. Apart from the Magyar's southpaw style, both fighters adopted similar tactics, prefering to slug it out at close quarters. In each round the veteran warriors slammed away at each other. In the seventh, Mueller switched to southpaw stance and seemed to make headway but at the start of the next session an unlucky cuff split open a deep cut over his already damaged left eye and a few moments later the tough Rhinelander raised his arm in token of surrender.
