Laszlo Papp 160 lbs beat Peter Mueller 159 lbs by TKO in round 4 of 10

  • Date: 1961-10-13
  • Location: Stadthalle, Vienna, Austria
  • The Ring, January 1962, reported:

Vienna, Austria. In a last, desperate attempt to stem the tide of defeat, Peter Mueller again took on Laszlo Papp, just one month after his seventh- round surrender against the Magyar in Cologne. A crowd of 13,000 packed the splendid auditorium at the new City Hall [...] to witness the return clash. The former triple Olympic champion, still undefeated in the paid ranks, started off in top gear and it was soon evident that Mueller, despite his extensive experience, had found no answer to the Magyar's southpaw style. Papp landed a terrific left hook followed by a right which dropped the German for 7 at the start of the second round and successive batterings floored Mueller at the close of the session, the gong saving him at the count of 8.

A couple of cracking right handers bounced off Papp's chin and he staggered momentarily in the fourth. Then as Mueller tried to press home his imagined advantage, Papp countered with a left hook which catapulted the Rhinelander head- over- heels across the ring. A further bombardement battered the last reserves out of Black Peter, who raised his arms in surrender even as he slid down to the canvas. "
