Leif Hansen 139 lbs beat Piet van Klaveren 147 lbs by DQ in round 5 of 8

  • Leif Hansen promoted and fought the main event at Nordstrandhallen,Oslo. He took on the Dutch welter Piet van Klaveren who was ahead on points when he got disqualified for an illegal blow in the 5th. The fight was messy with much wild punching from both. Van Klaveren wrestled Hansen to the floor early on,both used the ropes as a place to rest. In the 5th Hansen turned around in fear as Klaveren started an attack.The punch hit Hansen in the back of his head. He roared with pain and went down on one knee. Van Klaveren was now in his stride and another punch hit a kneeling Hansen in the head. The prompt disqualification was for the first blow.

    Trivia: Both boxers participated in the Helsinki Olympics 1952 in the Light welter divison,but didn't face each other then.

    On Hansen's promotions, live music was used in the intermissions,often Dixieland-jazz.This time Hansen used the new thing called Rock 'n roll. "The Four Sad Men " from Oslo performed a couple of Elvis tunes.
