"Paolo Rosi of New York, former lightweight challenger, almost knocked contender Len Matthews' head off with right uppercuts Saturday night and won an upset unanimous 10 round decision in their nationally televised fight at MSG. Matthews, 4th ranked contender of Philadelphia, did not win a single round on the scoresheets of the three ring officials: referee Jimmy Devlin, and judges Nick Gamboli and Johnny Dran. Rosi's uppercuts had Matthews staggering in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th. The young Philadelphian was so woozy in the 8th session that Dr. Alexander Schiff examined him in his corner to see whether he should be permitted to continue. Matthews' best round was the 5th, in which he managed to get to Paolo with a body and head attack. That was the only round the UPI gave him." -United Press International
