Paul Armstead 135 lbs beat Len Matthews 134 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10

"Paulie Armstead, winner of a disputed decision over Len Matthews of Philadelphia, today looked forward to a possible bout with top-ranked Kenny Lane and a long step upwards in the lightweight ranks. Armstead came on strong in the final two rounds after Matthews appeared to have the bout safely tucked away as a result of his strong showing in the middle rounds." -United Press International

  • Unofficial UPI scorecard - 96-94 Matthews
  • Matthews' manager Tony Graziano voiced most of his displeasure over the results at referee Jimmy Wilson, who he accused of signalling his scorecard to ringsiders before the decision was announced. When questioned by State Boxing Inspector Clayton Frye on Graziano's allegations, Wilson explained that since he had already turned in his scorecard he saw nothing wrong in answering questions on how he scored the bout.
