Len Matthews 135 lbs beat Ray Lancaster 138 lbs by TKO at 2:23 in round 2 of 10
- Date: 1959-02-16
- Location: Convention Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
- Referee: Joe Sweeney
"Len Matthews is hunting big game again after a sparkling 2nd round TKO over Ray Lancaster. The Philadelphia lightweight was all fury last night as he rocked Lancaster with solid combinations to the head shortly after the opening bell of their scheduled 10 rounder at Philly. Lancaster never went down, but was virtually out on his feet when referee Joe Sweeney halted the action at 2:23 with Lancaster against the ropes. Matthews, at 135, decided to box more and slug less against Lancaster, 138. But when a stiff left hook shook the Spartanburg, S.C., fighter in the 1st round, Matthews went back to his old slam-bang style." -Associated Press
