Lionel Rose 118 lbs beat Alan Rudkin 118 lbs by SD in round 15 of 15

"World bantamweight champion Lionel Rose of Australia retained his title today, hammering out a 15 round split decision over challenger Alan Rudkin of Great Britain. Rose peppered Rudkin with punches in the early rounds, scoring heavily in the 6th, but as the fight continued Rudkin picked up strength and made his best showing in the last round. The champion dominated the first seven rounds of the bout, and then tailed off badly. Rudkin improved as the bout progressed and dominated the last four rounds." -Associated Press

  • After the bout it was disclosed that Rose hurt his right hand midway into the fight. Dr. J.S. Whitehead stated that the small bone over the thumb appeared broken, but X-Rays showed there was no fracture.
