"The NBA recognized Lloyd Marshall of Sacramento, Calif., as duration light heavyweight champion today following his 10 round victory over Curtis Sheppard of Pittsburgh. Some 13,000 spectators watched Marshall hammer his way to a lopsided, bloody victory over Sheppard. Marshall outboxed his heavier opponent all the way. Sheppard's only weapon, an overhand right, failed to connect solidly at any time during the fight. Marshall, who scaled 164 1/2 against his opponent's 173, failed to register any knockdowns but ripped Sheppard's mouth and nose in the early rounds, the wounds bleeding liberally throughout the bout." -United Press
