Lloyd Marshall 165 lbs beat Holman Williams 163 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1944-06-07
  • Location: Auditorium, Oakland, California, USA
  • Referee: Billy Burke

"It was anybody's fight until the 7th round, when Lloyd Marshall connected with one of his lethal short right hands squarely to Holman Williams' button. Holman, after swaying, dropped to the canvas. For the balance of the round, fighting purely on instinct, he absorbed a lacing. Recovered from the effects of the punch, Williams opened the 9th slugging instead of boxing. For that 8th, 9th and part of the 10th a tearing, ripping Williams ignored all personal safety rules and carried the fight to his bewildered opponent. But midway in the 10th Marshall's punishing right landed, this time to the body. Williams gasped, partially doubled and went into a desperate clinch. It appeared he would fall, but didn't. But the steam was gone from him. His sensational rally, after having been on the verge of a knockout, had ended." -Oakland Tribune

Marshall won on Burke's scorecard by six points.
