Lloyd Marshall 164 lbs beat Joe Carter 158 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10
- Date: 1944-10-18
- Location: Arena, Cleveland, Ohio, USA
- Referee: Joe Sedley
"The verdict wasn't popular with most of the paying customers and it wasn't his best fight, but Lloyd Marshall today had his second triumph over Joe Carter, a middleweight from Rome, NY. The Sacramento, Calif., Negro, rated by the NBA as top man among the active light heavyweights, pursued the back-pedaling Carter around the ring for most of the 10 rounds and caught up with him frequently enough to gain a split decision. Carter's elusive tactics and footwork made him a difficult target for Marshall to hit but what little action there was occurred when the Californian got within striking distance of his opponent. Marshall did the forcing and this factor more than anything else earned him the verdict." -Associated Press
