"Lloyd Marshall, rated by the NBA as a logical contender for the light-heavyweight title, spotted Joey Maxim 21 lbs. and eight years, but emerged with a unanimous 10 round decision. Marshall registered two knockdowns and Maxim almost took the complete count on his second trip to the canvas. The jabbing Maxim went down from a right to the jaw in the 2nd round. He could have risen from that fall earlier, but elected to rest until the toll reached eight. However, the blow that dumped him on the floor in the 10th was a different matter. A bit peeved because the 9th round had been taken from him for a low blow, Marshall rushed Maxim at the start of the final heat and felled him with a quick right hand shot. Maxim managed to struggle to his feet at the count of nine and was able to stab, cling and stagger his way through to the end of the round." -Associated Press
