"Baby Arizmendi upset many an apple from the cart last night when he battled lightweight champion Lou Ambers to a draw in a wild 10 round non-title fight before 10,000 screaming fans at the Olympic Auditorium. After eight rounds of fighting, with seldom a let up, Arizmendi tore into the champ in the 9th and carried on as they fought after the bell. Again in the 10th he was crowding the weaving, hooking New Yorker when he suddenly pulled up with the left side of his face covered with blood. He claimed Ambers had butted him and the bout was halted momentarily for examination. Ambers, a 3-1 favorite over the Baby, said after the fight he felt sluggish and couldn't get started."
- Referee Jack Kennedy had a habit after eight rounds of a contest of announcing his scorecard up to that point in the bout, which was 4-3-1 in favor of Ambers.
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 5-4-1 Ambers
- Los Angeles Daily News scorecard: 5-3-2 Ambers

- "Henry Armstrong is stronger than Lou and throws too many punches. Ambers is easy to hit. I staggered him, and while I took my best shots at Henry, I couldn't faze him." -Baby Arizmendi, discussing the upcoming Ambers-Armstrong bout, in which he predicted an Armstrong KO.
