"Jimmy McLarnin, former welterweight king, tonight scored one of the grandest victories of his long and brilliant ring career by pounding out an easy 10 round non-title decision over the blood-smeared lightweight champion, Lou Ambers, at MSG. The 22 year old Ambers, who has not been knocked out in more than three years of professional fighting, was on the verge of his first KO several times tonight, but he displayed amazing ruggedness in not taking a single trip to the floor. Jimmy's repeating left hooks and smashing straight rights almost tore Lou's head off, sending him staggering backwards and floundering from side to side. it was one of the most amazing displays of durability ever witnessed on the big time." -United Press
