Lou Nova 204 lbs drew with Buddy Scott 180 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

"Lou Nova, California heavyweight, added emphasis to his claim to the duration crown by winning a 10 round decision from Buddy Scott, Tampa, Fla., last night. The victory, before 4,000 fans, was Nova's 12th on his comeback trail. Spotting Nova 24 pounds, Scott tried to carry the fight to the Californian but could not save himself from a left jab Nova used effectively. Scott, however, jarred Nova several times with stinging rights. In the 8th and 10th, Nova tried in vain for the distinction of knocking Scott out for the first time in his career." -Associated Press

  • On June 3rd, Scott's manager Eddie Sears, stated that he would ask the Oklahoma Boxing Commission to declare the bout a draw, due to the ring announcer mistakenly adding the scorecards together - 12 rounds for Nova, 8 for Scott and 10 rounds even - instead of announcing them as stand-alone scores.
  • On Monday, June 5th, the Oklahoma Boxing Commission officially declared the bout a draw.
  • Immediately after this bout Nova and Scott signed for a rematch in Galveston for June 13th - then changed to June 20th. However, Nova took two bouts in between against Jack Marshall and Bill Peterson and, due to eye damage suffered in the Peterson fight, Nova withdrew from the June 20th rematch and was substituted by Jack Marshall on June 27th.
