Luis Rodriguez 147 lbs beat Virgil Akins 147 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Unbeaten welterweight contender Luis Rodriguez of Havana, Cuba, Wednesday night pounded out a unanimous decision over fading welter star Virgil Akins of St. Louis in a nationally televised 10 round bout. The favorite Rodriguez's sharper punches wore down Akins, who was strong in the early rounds and stunned the Cuban in the 2nd and 3rd. The fancy Rodriguez had set up the ex-champ with swift left-right combinations time after time in the 7th and 8th rounds but couldn't deliver the killing blow. Each weighted 147 for the televised fight from Freedom Hall." -Avalanche-Journal
