Luis Rodriguez 150 lbs beat Jose Assuncao 151 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Former welterweight champion Luis Rodriguez gave a near-capacity crowd a beautiful boxing exhibition last night as he coasted to a unanimous decision over Jose Assuncao at the Hacienda Hotel. Rodriguez, 150, won nearly every round as he displayed far too much speed and class for the Brazilian junior middleweight champ who weighed 151. There were no knockdowns in the 10-round bout. Rodriguez frequently opened up to bury his opponent under barrages of punches throughout the fight. The flashy Cuban, now fighting as a middleweight, dominated the entire going but never had his opponent in danger of being knocked out." -Las Vegas SUN

  • Although the SUN advertised Assuncao as the Brazilian 154 lb. champ, it does not appear on his record that he ever fought for that title. Moreover, The Brazilian was advertised as having a record of 32-4-2 (10) going into this fight, however, Boxrec has him at 17-11-11 (4).
