"It looks like the end for former welterweight champion Luis Rodriguez. At 34, the Cuban had little to offer against Rafael Gutierrez, a fighter he had little trouble in disposing of in 1969. Gutierrez, of Mexicali, Mexico, now living in Sacramento, was pounding Rodriguez at will in the 6th round, when the referee called it a night for Luis. Gutierrez took charge in the 3rd round and the crowd of 3,100 had little doubt of the outcome. It was by far the best showing by Gutierrez and should establish him as the Bay area's top attraction." -Ring Magazine, November 1971 issue
