"Crafty veteran Kang Il Suh, 134, of Korea, ended the 17 fight victory string of teenager Mando Ramos, 132 1/4, of Long Beach, Calif., by unanimous decision Thursday night. The bout bristled with action throughout the 10 rounds before a turnaway crowd of 10,794 in the Olympic Auditorium. There were no knockdowns and neither fighter was visibly marked at the finish as fans in the jammed arena showered the ring with coins in appreciation for the excitement. Ramos was a 13-10 favorite, and the partisan crowd screamed at his every flurry. But Suh proved as fast, if not faster, weathered a body attack in the middle rounds and drew away in the last three rounds for a convincing triumph. Ramos tried to rally in the last round, but in the final 35 seconds, the Korean shook up Ramos with several punches to the head. Ramos got in a hard blow to the chin to stagger his opponent, and the referee had to step in and stop the fight as they continued the wild melee after the bell sounded." -Associated Press
