"Mando Ramos, 141, scored a sensational 9th round knockout of Phil Garcia, 147, in a scheduled 10 round main event Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium. With 17 seconds to go in round nine, Ramos leveled a left hook that sent Garcia down and out. Garcia was out on his feet for most of the round and it looked as though referee Joey Olmos would halt the bout at any moment when Ramos finally fired home the winning shot. The 19 year old Ramos, participating in his first welterweight bout, was thought to be at a slight disadvantage in weight but came in at only six pounds under his opponent." -Associated Press
