- Referee: Lee Grossman
- Judge: Rudy Jordan
- Judge: George Latka
"Lightweight champion Mando Ramos successfully defended his world championship in his first defense with a 6th round knockout Saturday night over former jr. lightweight champion Yoshiaki Numata of Tokyo. Numata carried the fight to the champion in the 1st round and won the round. But from there on it appeared that Ramos, pressing the attack as Numata counter-punched, took command. The hard-punching Ramos, 135, to his opponent's 134 1/2, had the Japanese down and obviously in bad shape in the 5th round. In an overpowering assault early in the 6th, throwing punches from all angles, primarily to the mid-section, Ramos had his opponent on the floor for an automatic eight-count. Another volley of lefts and rights battered the game Numata down and he was flat on his stomach, trying to roll onto his back. Referee Lee Grossman did not bother to finish the count." -Associated Press
- Although scores are not in print, it was reported that Grossman and judge Rudy Jordan had the bout even going into the 6th, while judge George Latka had Ramos well in front.
