  • Norwegian heavyweight Bjarne Lingaas returned to his hometown Kristiansand in Southern Norway and had his farewell fight after 20 years in the ring. He faced the German trial horse Manfred Ackers, a surprisingly light footed 99 kg fighter. Lingaas,10 kg lighter, was the one who looked slow and hesitant. His old classic left jab worked, but the 1,800 crowd at Kristiansand Football Stadium expected more. Lingaas' right never came, and in the 4th a surprise swing from Ackers dropped Lingaas. He was up at once and took a standing 8 count. In the 5th, to make things worse,Lingaas got a cut eye. This however inspired him to a frenetic rally in the 5th and 6th,securing a points win. Lefts and rights to the body punched out all optimism Ackers may have had after his lucky punch in the 4th.
