Manuel Gonzalez 149 lbs beat Rip Randall 147 lbs by KO at 1:52 in round 3 of 10
- Date: 1964-08-11
- Location: Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston, Texas, USA
- Randall was being groomed to appear opposite Jose Stable on September 11th, in what was to be the final fight of the 20-year long televised boxing series. It was feared that the loss to Gonzalez may have jeopardized his appearance. And ultimately, the final card pitted Dick Tiger against Don Fullmer in the final show.
"Manuel Gonzalez, 147, an unranked but fast boxer from Odessa, in West Texas, made short work Tuesday night of Rip Randall, 147, the world's 4th-ranked welterweight with a knockout at 1:52 of the 3rd round. Randall chased the smooth-boxing Gonzalez during the first couple of rounds but the faster Gonzalez was ahead on points up to the KO. He caught Randall with a straight left and followed it up with a hook and two right crosses to put Randall down." -United Press International
