  • "The 20th Century Club was trying today to match Marcel Cerdan of Morocco and champion Tony Zale for a world middleweight title fight this summer because of Cerdan's impressive knockout victory over young Harold Green at MSG last night. Making his second American appearance, the 30 year old Frenchman from North Africa knocked out 22 year old Green of Brooklyn at 2:19 of the 2nd round. The knockout punch climaxed a furious 20 second head attack that Cerdan launched as soon as he saw that Green was hurt. The Brooklyn youngster was hurt badly just after an exchange, when Cerdan stepped in with a right hook to the jaw that spun Green sideways, half-buckled his knees, and left him groggy. In that savage attack Cerdan proved himself a deadly finisher." -United Press

    • Sol Strauss of the 20th Century Club met the following day with Sam Pian and Art Winch, the managers of Tony Zale, in an attempt to sign a Tony Zale - Marcel Cerdan middleweight title fight for the summer of '47. However, it wouldn't be until September of '48 they would eventually meet as Zale preferred granting Rocky Graziano a rematch, which would ultimately force a third match between the two.
