- Barrera made the fourth defense of his WBC title and second straight in four months over Juarez, having won by a scorecard controversy filled split decision in May at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
- Barrera controlled the opening rounds with his left jab but could never really capitalize. The fans booed the lack of action throughout the fight, hoping for a repeat of the slugfest from the first meeting.
