Marty Kizer started boxing in 1978 under the tutelage of Charles Murphy on the Mayor Hatcher Youth Foundation Boxing Club in Gary, Indiana. He won two Indiana state championships and a two time finalist in the Chicago Golden Gloves. He was an All-navy champion in 1984 and 1985.
