- Hagler floored Watts twice in round two. The second knockdown occurred with three seconds remaining in the round. Watts staggered up at the count of eight, then sank back down on one knee. Under Maine boxing rules, Watts should have been saved by the bell, but the timekeeper failed to sound the bell when time expired. The referee ruled a TKO for Hagler at 2:59 of the round, and the chairman of the Maine State Athletic Commission confirmed the ruling.
