Marvis Frazier 200 lbs beat Joe Bugner 238 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

Ten years after his father Joe Frazier decisioned Bugner, son Marvis Frazier won a clear ten round decision over Bugner. A consistent jab won this televised fight for Marvis against the slower Bugner. It was Bugner's last ring appearance in the United States. It was the tenth straight win for Marvis, and it somehow qualified Marvis for a fight against Larry Holmes which was not sanctioned as a title bout.

  • Unofficial AP scorecard - 9-1 Frazier

Post-fight comments

  • "Larry Holmes told me in my office he wants to fight Marvis. All the financing is in place, but nothing has been signed." -Bob Arum, attempting to make the match between Holmes and Frazier, which he delivered, albeit in a non-sanctioned manner.
  • "Marvis, with a lot more coaching and experience, could be a very good cruiserweight. The heavyweight division might be too much for him. My opinion is he has to do something to avoid those right hands and jabs. I think Larry Holmes, who has one of the best left jabs in the business, would cut him up." -Joe Bugner, On Marvis' chances with Holmes
