Older brother of boxer Bobby Dechter. Dechter was a fan favorite particularly in Atlantic City N.J. Reputed to be one of the smaller flyweights in the game for many years according to various Atlantic City newspaper sources. Later in his career shifted his base of operations to New Brunswick N.J. where he was also highly regarded. Probably his most significant victories were over highly ranked Bobby Wolgast,and highly ranked flyweight and bantamweight contender Benny Schwartz, and Benny Tell.
