In an eliminator for the European light welterweigh title, currently held by Johann Orsolics of Austria, British Maurice Cullen outpointed the Finn Olli Maeki over 10 rounds. It was a split decision, with two Finnish judges having Cullen as a winner, while referee Adolfo Minetti, also of Finland, went for Maeki. 5000 spectators saw the fight at the Exhibition Hall in Helsinki.
Cullen ( 63 kg ) jabbed fast and often and made it diffucult for Maeki ( 63,5 kg ) to get inside with his short hooks. The fight was beautiful to watch, exciting and even to the last bell. No knockdowns, no cuts.
