Maurice Harris 228 lbs beat Nagy Aguilera by UD in round 12 of 12

In an upset, Maurice Harris used consistent left and right jabs and uppercuts which scored repeatedly down the stretch and appeared to win rounds four through twelve and won the vacant USBA heavyweight championship by unanimous decision in his second try over IBF #15 rated contender Nagy Aguilera. As the bout began, Aguilera came forward as the aggressor and won the first few rounds by throwing more, but Harris countered and landed most blows from round four on as Aguilera continued to get hit in the head repeatedly. The bout went the twelve round distance. One judge saw the bout 115-113 but the bout did not appear to be that close. Harris lost a twelve round decision to future heavyweight champion Chris Byrd in his previous try for the vacant USBA title in May 2001. Harris entered the ring at 228 pounds, his lowest fight weight since knocking out 16-0 future heavyweight champion Siarhei Lyakhovich in June 2002. This bout was part of the non-televised portion of the fight card. Aguilera had beaten Oleg Maskaev.
