Ritchie a former Lubbock High School football star, with 16 pro fights, won the first round. Baer, bleeding from the nose, floored Ritchie with a barrage of head shots in round 2. After Ritchie got up, he was caught with a looping overhand right on the chin that knocked him out.
After the fight Max Baer told C.W. Ratliff of the Lubbock Morning Avalanche: 'I'll tell you the truth. I thought him much easier than he really was and he put up a real fight what time he was in there but Old Maxie was just too good, I guess... I didn't think I had hit as hard as I did... He gave me some trouble there in the first round and what time there was in the second... He's a nice kid and with some schooling and experience he should develop into a good fighter.'
