"The clock has turned back to another day and Max Baer, the golden boy, has fought his way back to the heights. It took 15 rounds of blistering action against Tommy Farr, the sturdy Welshman, to do it. In those 45 minutes the years slipped away and Baer battered the iron-hearted Farr around the ring. Baer proved to the 18,222 fans, who booed him roundly when he entered the ring, that he had something left, enough to batter Farr to the canvas three times, a feat that Joe Louis found well-nigh impossible. He didn't come out unscathed. They breed them tough in Tonypandy, Wales and Farr got off the floor three times to lash his left to Baer's face and sink slinging hooks to the Californian's ribs. Only Farr's tremendous courage kept him coming in to meet those thunderous rights, to stab away at Baer's badly-puffed eye, to pound at his body. Several times he seemed to be going at full steam. When he did, Baer unleashed his body attack." -Associated Press
- Promoter Mike Jacobs had promised the winner a September title shot against Joe Louis provided Louis gets past his April 1st title fight with Harry Thomas (a rematch would then take place) and his June title fight with Max Schmeling. Moreover, he promised Baer that if Schmeling lost his April 16th bout with Steve Dudas (Schmeling stopped him in the 5th), he would replace Schmeling with Baer. However, this never took place.
