"When the plans for the next important heavyweight battle are made, it is going to be difficult to overlook Max Baer from Livermore, Calif. In Chicago Stadium last night Baer eliminated Tuffy Griffiths, game youngster from Sioux City, Ia., from consideration as a contender by a TKO in the 7th round. Endowed with all the physical advantages, Baer took his time to literally hack Griffiths down to defeat. After the 1st round it was apparent that Baer was headed for victory. In the 6th the bell saved Griffiths after a right hand had knocked him into a sitting position. Griffiths courage carried him through one storm after another, but in the 7th, a crushing right to the jaw sent him reeling against the ropes. As he bounced off, another left him rubber-legged and ready for the finishing punch. Referee Phil Collins stepped in before the decisive punch could be delivered." -Associated Press
