Bout Summary

  • In the preliminary bout to the main event at Casa Del Sol in Tucson, Arizona, lightweight southpaw Mercito 'No Mercy' Gesta, a Filipino fighting out of San Diego, California, remained unbeaten in twenty bouts with a seventh round knockout of Genaro Trazancos, a veteran of 35 professional bouts who opponents included Edwin Valero. Trazancos started fast, landing some heavy power shots and left and right hand leads to the head of Gesta in the first three rounds, who shook them off and was not bothered by them. Both fighters swung wildly, missing many punches in center ring and as the fight moved along the the ropes. Gesta landed some effective uppercuts, and took control from the fourth round on by landing consistent and effective left and right hand jabs to the head to win the rounds on points. Both fighters were in excellent condition. The bout appeared extremely close, going into the seventh, and Trazancos was seriously trying to win, but when he did land counter jabs there was no power behind them, which proved the difference. A short, straight right on the chin by Gesta put Trazancos on his back, his head banging off the canvas, knocked out, prompting an end to the contest.
