  • According to the Dec. 26, 1914 Tacoma Daily News (Tacoma, WA, USA), King was from Western Australia. He had started his boxing career in 1911. By the date of that newspaper edition, he had fought some 35 bouts. He had won 28 by knockout, and lost a 20-rounder on points, his third career contest.
  • Jeff Smith was his early trainer.
  • King died circa early 1924 in the Antipodes of injuries received after being knocked out in a bout. Exact date, location and opponent unknown.

In a message to Chuck Johnston, Stanley wrote that her great-grandfather was the brother of Joseph (Mick King) Wakefield Kent's mother (whose maiden name was Mary Ann Lucy Meehan). She also wrote that Joseph (Mick King) Wakefield Kent's "birth record is a registration index from the NSW Birth, Death and marriages." Stanley listed the registration number of the birth as being 26212 and the birth year as being 1892. She wrote that evidence can be found in Australian newspapers that Joseph (Mick King) Wakefield Kent got in trouble with the law numerous times. She believed that he had injuries to his brain, adding that this may have been a factor which led him to get into mischief on a constant basis.
