Friedman got his start in boxing as a mascot for Dayton-area boxer Eddie Griesmeyer. Friedman promoted his first show on November 13, 1946. Standing only 4-4 in height, he dubbed himself the world's smallest promoter.

Friedman later promoted wrestling in the mid-1950s, and brought professional boxing to Dayton in the 1960s with the Dayton Little Mickeys. Friedman was also ran a tavern, clothing store, and adult book stores.
