Guery was the brother of Joe Guery. Guery became a trainer at the Fenwick Club in Cincinnati towards the end of his pro career, by 1941 he was the A.A.U. boxing chairman for Northern Kentucky. In the 1950s Guerrea owned a bar known as the Midge Gurrea Tavern along Fifth Street in Dayton, Kentucky. He served as a board member of the Newport (KY) Housing Authority and was a city commissioner and vice mayor in Newport from 1948 to 1950.
