Rodolfo Casanova 125 lbs lost to Midget Wolgast 122 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1935-07-26
  • Location: Legion Stadium, Hollywood, California, USA
  • Referee: Freddie Gilmore

"Midget Wolgast, of Philadelphia, former kingpin of the flyweights, won a decision over one of the leading featherweight contenders in Baby Casanova of Mexico, at the American Legion Stadium here last night. Casanova, 125, started fast and was in the midst of a two-fisted attack when Wolgast, 122, caught him with a left hook and sent him reeling against the ropes. Casanova got in some telling blows during the early stages of the fight, rushing like a young bull and landing several hard punches. The Philadelphian kept bobbing under Casanova's charges, straightening up occasionally and pounding away at the Mexican's face. Casanova opened a cut on Wolgast's eye in the 8th round and kept hitting away at the injury until the end of the fight. The 10th round found the Mexican in an extremely belligerent mood, but Wolgast was in there fighting and managed to keep his advantage." -Associated Press
