Miguel Canto 111 lbs beat Shoji Oguma 112 lbs by MD in round 15 of 15

"Mexican challenger Miguel Canto Wednesday night used his right hand effectively and won the WBC flyweight crown from southpaw defending champion Shoji Oguma of Japan. The majority 15 round decision in favour of the Mexican stunned a partisan crowd of 9,000 at the Miyagi Sports Center. Oguma failed in his first defense because he permitted the Mexican challenger to carry the fight. He went all out to win when he took the last two rounds with a two-fisted attack. Canto, shorter by 3 inches, took an early lead with rights to the head and never relinquished it. There were no knockdowns." -United Press International
