"Miguel Canto defended his WBC flyweight championship for a record 13th time by scoring a split decision over feisty Thai contender Tacomron Vibonchai. Ranked No. 5 by the WBC, Vibonchai finished strong Monday night but could not overtake the champion's strong early lead. Canto, from Merida, Mexico, suffered a head cut after an unintentional clash of heads midway through the 4th round." -Associated Press
- The AP report agreed with Boxrec's split tally from the judges. However, the UPI report claimed a unanimous (146-141, 146-141, 146-140) decision for Canto.
- Both AP and UPI reports state that Vibonchai held a #5 rating from the WBC and that his record going into this bout was 32-2-2. The UPI report also claimed that Vibonchai was also the Thai bantamweight champion.
