- In a televised WBO Bantamweight vacant title bout, Canizales and Lora traded blows in frequent exchanges in rounds one and two. Lora decked Canizales in the second, and Canizales took his time getting up. Canizales, who looked okay despite the knockdown, then proceeded to deck Lora. Unlike Canizales, when Lora got up from the canvas, he appeared to be on shaky legs. Canizales then attacked Lora on the ropes, who got hit with a number of power punches to the head, went down and got counted out. Gaby Canizales, whose brother Orlando Canizales held the IBF Bantamweight title from 1998-1994, accomplished a most unique feat by winning this bout. Gaby and his brother Orlando became the first two brothers to hold a share of the Bantamweight title at the same time. In a televised interview in the ring after winning this bout, Gaby Canizales was asked by the commentator if he and his brother intended to fight each other in a bantamweight unification bout, whereupon Canizales responded that he and his brother had spent their lives training and sparring with each other, and that was why they both became so good! In Lora's 40 bout professional career, including 11 Bantamweight title bouts, this was the only time that Miguel 'Happy' Lora was stopped or knocked out.
